Effective management begins with a thorough understanding of both the condition and the individual

Our Approach

Disorders affecting voice, swallowing and upper airway function are often influenced by a combination of physiological, medical, behavioural and environmental factors.

We integrate clinical assessment findings, instrumental assessment where appropriate, current research and your priorities to develop an individualised management plan.

We believe patients should understand their condition and feel actively involved in their care. Assessment findings and recommendations are explained clearly, and management decisions are made collaboratively.

Where appropriate, we communicate closely with your treating medical specialists and other members of your healthcare team to support coordinated, multidisciplinary care.

We are committed to translating contemporary research into practical, individualised clinical care.

Vivian Tai

Vivian is a Certified Practising Speech Pathologist with a particular interest in voice, swallowing and laryngeal disorders, including dysphonia, chronic cough, inducible laryngeal obstruction (ILO) and dysphagia.

Alongside her private practice at Vocal Health, Vivian is an Advanced Scope Senior Speech Pathologist at Royal Perth Hospital, where she works within the Multidisciplinary Voice Clinic alongside ENT specialists and the Advanced Scope Speech Pathology Clinic. Her work across tertiary hospital and private practice settings provides experience with a broad range of presentations, including complex conditions.

Voice and laryngeal disorders are a primary focus of her clinical work. Her approach centres on careful assessment and understanding the factors contributing to a person's symptoms, with findings used to guide targeted, individualised rehabilitation. Where appropriate, assessment may include perceptual and acoustic voice measures, flexible nasendoscopy and collaboration with ENT specialists for further laryngeal imaging.

Vivian regularly collaborates with universities and contributes to guest lectures, professional education and mentoring of speech pathology students and clinicians. She also undertakes ongoing professional development and clinical mentoring, keeping her practice informed by current evidence and evolving clinical knowledge.

Vivian enjoys meeting people and hearing about their lives, work and interests. Always ready for a conversation and a laugh, she believes that communication is at the heart of what we do.
